Gerchman will celebrate first Modified title during week in Indianapolis

CORONA, California (December 5, 2013) – Last month, Chris Gerchman added a championship to the list of his accomplishments in the Lucas Oil Modified Series presented by LoanMart.

This month, he gets to celebrate that achievement in company with other Lucas Oil racing series title-holders at the annual championship celebration that is held in conjunction with the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Gerchman, who had been second once and third three times in the Hoosier Tire West point standings, had four wins and finished lower than second only twice in nine starts in 2013 en route to his first series title. In the process he collected $15,200 in prize money and will wind up with approximately $21,000 when product awards and other prizes are included.

The 26-year-old who grew up in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and now lives in Spring Branch, Texas, is the Lucas Oil Modified Series all-time leader in race wins with 17 and earnings with $58,261. He's already said he'll be back in 2014, too, to bid for a second title in the Peggy's Sunrise Café/G-n-G Auto/Ezell Fleet Services/General Tire STR Chevrolet.

Gerchman, a high voltage lineman for the city of New Braunfels, Texas, will miss the first day of the December 11-15 celebration and a trip to the Hoosier Tire headquarters. But he and dad Larry Gerchman will be busy the rest of the week.

Thursday, December 12, will be spent at the PRI show at Lucas Oil Stadium and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series banquet at the Lucas Oil Estate. Friday the 13th it's more time at the PRI show, a media luncheon and a dinner at the J. Hamman Prime steak house. That will be followed by a tour of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Hall of Fame Museum on the 14th and VIP treatment at the NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans on Sunday, December 15.

Then it will be home for the holidays and work for Gerchman until he's honored by his peers at the Lucas Oil Modified Series banquet at the BlueWater Resort and Casino in Parker, Arizona, January 11, 2014.
